Tempo

Photographic project created during winter and spring 2025. "Tempo" is a visual installation and a photographic project that reveals the tension between the acceleration of time in the city and the stillness of rural life, where nature still sets the pace.

Tempo

The pulse of the city calls for action. It drives a constant movement, puts pressure on achievement and demands your full attention. In contrast, the countryside offers a different space of time—one that stretches out, where nature dictates the rhythm and silence is given space. “Tempo” creates a visual dialogue between two: the hectic and the still. Together they explore how these opposing tempos shape our lives. The relentless noise and density of urban environments can take a toll on both mental and physical health, meanwhile people in rural areas tend to report a better overall well-being, since benefitting from slower rhythms and quieter surroundings.

What happens to us when the pace of the city creeps into the landscape, can we bring the stillness of the countryside into the everyday life of the city and if so, how? The project doesn’t favor one tempo over the other, but instead highlights the contrast between them—offering a moment to reflect on our health and a quiet reminder of the need for recovery. Our mental state is very much a reflection of our surroundings, and “Tempo” questions the environments we create and how they shape us back.

On the 17th of may 2025 the project was exhibited together with a supporting video and printed photographs. At CRU Creative Hub in Porto, Portugal.
